Sugar Diabetes-Not So Sweet (Part 2) - Catherine Has More Health Info

Sugar Diabetes-Not So Sweet
(Part 2)

Last week we talked about how not to become one of the diabetic research statistics. Remember we were discussing how to fool the brain into thinking we had a piece of apple pie.  In place of the sugar laden homemade apple pie (sorry Mom) instead bake apples (real apples fresh from the market) that are cored, with a little butter (real) in the center, sprinkle with honey (raw) and cinnamon.

A pinch of mace really makes the apples taste yummy. Bake at 350 degrees until soft. Then sprinkle or serve with whole or chopped almonds! The baked apples give the same apple taste, honey the taste of sweetness and the almonds fool the brain into thinking it is a crunchy crust. How sweet.

What you will have done is satisfied your “sweet tooth” and your body cells rejoice at the same time. You will have given yourself a dessert high in fiber, and the essential trace amounts of chromium found in the butter, honey, and the nuts. You have no preservatives, no bad fats from a crust, no sugar, no harmful side effects.

Even better “apple pie” would be to place thinly sliced apples on a plate, speckle with honey, sprinkle with lemon juice (from the lemon not the bottle), shake on some cinnamon and lastly dust with ground nuts.  Mmmm  good. These are wholesome treats even for the diabetic which can tolerate apples very well for several reasons:

  • One they are loaded with fiber (a trooper against the low fiber diet).
  • Two, a significant amount of apple sugar is fructose which requires less insulin than glucose in order to be metabolized and produce energy.
  • And thirdly, apples contain pectin which acts to regulate the release of sugars, allowing them into the blood stream slowly, progressively and naturally.

Diabetes can be controlled naturally by as much of what you don’t eat as much as by what you eat.
Don’t be fooled, diabetes symptoms can and will disappear when the body is treated according to GOD’S PLAN. Your life can be sweet again.

So pass the “apple pie” please. There are many expert theories on the cause and cure of diabetes thus further professional counsel is advised.

To discover the riches of GOD’S PLAN in nature and the garden is a great treasure, for one will find it is still man’s greatest apothecary.

Sugar Diabetes-Not So Sweet - Catherine Sinclair Has More Health Info

Sugar Diabetes-Not So Sweet

Is your life not so sweet because you suffer from diabetes? Between 1998 and 2008 The American Heart Associations’ “Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics – 2012 Update” tells us that you are among the 11% of the adult population who now has diabetes. That amounts to about 4.5 million Americans with type 2 diabetes that are on insulin. And worse yet another 36.8 % are prediabetic.

Thought must be given to these statistics now - if you don’t want to become a statistic in the research. Do you know mature onset diabetes (II) symptoms can be eliminated in your life? Research tells us diabetes comes from a diet of highly processed, chromium-impoverished foods. All junk foods are impoverished processed foods of any sort-canned, boxed, or packaged generally laden with sugar, salt and preservatives.

None are considered live nor enzyme-rich foods. White refined sugar is a demonic little devil that takes away your sweet life. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate that slowly poisons the body by repeated assaults on the pancreas forcing this gland to work overtime in producing insulin. Eventually, it becomes exhausted and produces too little insulin thus your doctor prescribes insulin to relieve symptoms. A shortage of insulin is not always the problem however.

Sometimes it’s a shortage of the trace mineral chromium. Insulin needs tiny amounts of chromium to be able to escort glucose through cells walls. All sorts of foods and plants have a reputation for helping to prevent and control diabetes. Why is it then we are suffering so much pain and disease in the wealthiest nation in the world? I think it is because, “Too much of a good thing is bad for you.” as my mother used to say. How right she was.

The biggest culprit of diabetes is the high fat, high sugar and low fiber diet. Simple. Yet, it seems we Americans “want it all and want it now.” Too much of a good thing that is. I’m not advocating we entirely stop eating fats, sugar or even cake, I’m advocating we use our heads as well as our mouths when we eat. As simple as that sounds it’s not so easy to do as many have told me. That’s why we have to play the game “Fool Me” with the brain.

Nutritionists know a high fiber diet will help in warding off weight as well as diabetes. So how do we play the game? Like this for example. Outstanding fiber foods are almonds, apples, blackberries, broccoli, corn, fresh peas, kidney beans, plums, potatoes, prunes, raisins, spinach, sweet potatoes and wholegrain breads and zucchini.

Ok, are you ready for dessert? Let’s say you really like apple pie. So instead of buying the sugar preservative laden commercial pie or bake a sugar laden homemade pie we can instead... (to be continued next week). There are many expert theories on the cause and cure of diabetes thus further professional counsel is advised.

Protect Your Memory with Three Miraculous Garden Herbs - Catherine Sinclair Has More Health Info

Protect Your Memory with Three Miraculous Garden Herbs

Part Three - Turmeric

We discussed last time the second of the three miraculous herbs from your garden that can bolster your memory, boost your brain power and fight forgetfulness naturally. In part one we discussed the benefits of sage. In part two - rosemary. This week the third miraculous herb turmeric has the spotlight.

Curcumin is prepared from the turmeric root. It’s been observed in persons suffering from Alzheimer’s disease that white blood cells are impaired when seeking to destroy the toxic accumulation of beta amyloid plaque. Researchers also found that curcumin may give a boost to the white blood cells so they can continue to do their mission and eat away at the toxic build up that’s linked with Alzheimer’s.

Since Indian research shows that even a teaspoon of turmeric has medicinal value, curcumin is used extensively in India. It makes sense to enjoy turmeric as the Indians do. They use turmeric in nearly all their prepared dishes and it has proven good results. India has lower incidence of Alzheimer’s disease than anywhere else in the world. Many anti- Alzheimer’s patent medicines are deliberately designed and being formulated to reduce amyloid beta levels and potentially reduce Alzheimer’s symptoms.

Curcumin has been found to be well tolerated at levels ranging from 2000 to 8000 mg a day for three months with no adverse effects. I find the easiest way to add turmeric to my diet is to buy a good quality powdered herb and add it to my favorite seasonings such as Dash or other salt alternative seasoning. Turmeric in small amounts has no strong flavor and can be easily disguised.

Turmeric does taste bitter when used in large amounts so, I sprinkle a small but generous amount on my breakfast eggs. Or you can take turmeric in capsule form. Using turmeric is not only beneficial in aiding Alzheimer’s disease but as a medicinal drink may aid digestion, protect stomach lining to ward off ulcers, relieve arthritis, treat dysentery, protect the liver, combat heart disease, and prevent certain cancers according to Drs. Bernie Olin, editor of The Lawrence Review of Natural Products and Alan R. Gaby, M.D. a Baltimore physician, president of the American Holistic Medical Association, who practices nutritional and natural medicine.

Use one teaspoon of turmeric powder per cup of warm milk. Drink up to three cups a day. Unusually large amounts of turmeric may cause stomach upset. If the drink doesn’t agree with you discontinue use. Remember it is important to test all herbs to see that it is fresh and alive with life giving energy. To test I use what I call the “Live Food Indicator.” More info about the” Live Food Indicator” can be found on www.livefooddiet.us.

Don’t forget! These three memory enhancing herbs; sage, rosemary and turmeric are sure to spice up your life and you will soon discover you will no longer wonder where those blasted keys are! If you’d like to use the three miracle herbs: sage, rosemary and turmeric in addition to standard therapies it is wise to discuss it with your chosen health practitioner.

Alzheimer’s disease, ulcers, arthritis, liver disease, heart disease and cancer all require further professional counsel.  Check out 90 Day Challenge  for FREE. Get your own personal health assessement by clicking on the picture. :)

Blast Your Forgetter - Catherine Sinclair Has More Health Info

Blast Your Forgetter Not Your Keys
Protect Your Memory with Three Simple Herbs

Part Two - Rosemary
We discussed last time that there are three miraculous herbs from your garden that can bolster your memory, boost your brain power and fight forgetfulness naturally. In part one we discussed the benefits of sage. This time the second herb rosemary has the spotlight.

Rosemary, or Rosmarinus officinalis, is another commonly used kitchen garden herb. Rosemary has traditionally been used as a mild diuretic for edema, to improve kidney function and used as a detoxifier. However, research also shows that rosemary may be useful in the prevention and treatment of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

One active component in rosemary is carnosic acid, which, like sage, may have neuroprotective benefits in the management of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Studies suggest that the rosemary activates a pathway that protects neurons from oxidative stress and excitotoxicity (toxins which cause harm by significant over stimulation) and reduced damage from reactive oxygen species.  Unlike patent medicines carnosic acid crosses the “blood-brain barrier” and has no harmful side effects.

According to Dr. Jonathan Wright, carnosic acid is a naturally occurring therapeutic type constituent which only activates when there is potential damage to the cell, such as when free radical damage is occurring. Otherwise, it is inactive when not needed, making rosemary a safe and well tolerated herb. Carnosic acid does two other things of significance for the brain.  It prevents the narrowing of arteries to the brain and also increases the body’s levels of glutathione, which is an important antioxidant and detoxifier.

Rosemary has a long history as a memory-enhancing herb. Today scientific research has shown the impact of rosemary on cognitive function. 28 volunteers were assessed at regular intervals after given amounts ranging from 750 to 6000 milligrams daily. The most effective amount was 750 milligrams daily, an amount closest to what a culinary intake might be. The highest amounts were deemed to actually impair cognitive performance. [i]

Dr. Eric Powell[ii] tells us that tests over a lengthy period have demonstrated that there is a lot to the old saying, “Rosemary-that’s for remembrance.” He says:
“There is no doubt that small doses of fresh rosemary help improve the memory. In common with camomile (sic) and wild yam it is also of much service in the treatment of congestive headaches and insomnia. It undoubtedly has an affinity for the brain.”

An easy way to incorporate rosemary into your diet is to sprinkle rosemary on your prepared foods such as mashed potatoes, tomato sauces or Italian dishes or steep a tablespoon of rosemary in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes or so. Add honey and lemon to taste and enjoy the refreshing benefits. It tastes wonderful.

If you don’t have time to add rosemary to your diet you may choose to enjoy the aroma of rosemary essential oil. Rosemary therapeutic essential oil alone may be effective in improving mental function. When 20 healthy volunteers were exposed to the aroma of rosemary’s essential oil containing 1, 8-cineole, they performed better and with more speed and increased concentration on cognitive testing.[iii]

So enjoy the aroma of rosemary essential oil or make your tea and make your memory stick with you. See you next time when we discuss the third herb vital to enhancing memory and fighting forgetfulness.
